After

So here it is. I was going for a borderline cottage with clean lines, homeyness (is that a word?) and a touch of unexpected (otherwise known as fun!). I love it. I hate the floor and still plan to change out the ceiling fixture (it's hideous, but you can't see it in the pic thank goodness). What do you think? Although you can't see the color too great...it is called Lobster Maine and coordinates with our living room perfectly. I refinished the furniture piece from the more traditional paint job, aged it a bit, and even added a piece of jewelry (it's really the glass knob, but I just love it). It was a 5 step process that included red and black paint, sanding, candle wax, soft turquoise paint, a bit more sanding around the edges of course, and a coat of poly. The best part is the foyer looked exactly like I had pictured it in my mind...I love it when that happens! This knocks out 2 non new year's resolutions...painting a piece of furniture even if it doesn't turn out right (which in this case it did :)) and redoing the foyer...check and check!

Julie, it's gorgeous! I would love to have a foyer like that! We haven't got a new kitchen table since before the babies and once they are out of highchaires, we will need a new one to fit at least five :) I hope to refinish a good find like you did. I may be asking for tips then!

Oh, and I love your light fixture. You can always take it down and spraypaint it like charcoal color to update it. The lantern looks are so in right now too!
